Thanksgivings

I saw a meme-like status on Le FB about being thankful for things. I thought I would just try to list something every day for which I am thankful leading up to Thanksgiving. I will even make up for lost days in November.

(I will even give one for October 31st - CF moved in with me for a couple of months before heading to his job that starts the beginning of next year. Like how I snuck that in there?)
  1. All you can eat pizza buffet in town with CF and coworkers.
  2. A (very short) run that made me feel like I am not THAT out of shape.
  3. A warm kitty curled up on my lap.
  4. Figuring out why my experiments were variable...even if it means doing them again...after already doing them again...
  5. Homemade bacon, egg, and cheddar sandwich for breakfast. [Hmmm...should I start making these a little more meaningful?]
  6. Got my hour of sleep back! And free hand-made pretzels at church.
  7. Teamwork! The grad student with whom I work and I are trading off stages of an experiment so that the person who gets the most reliable results on specific steps does those steps.
  8. Teamwork! When I got home, the trash and dishwasher were empty. Even though I wasn't hungry, CF is stressed out about school, and I made him dinner.
  9. Pumpkin beer! CF's friend passed his pre-lims (makes him a PhD candidate/ABD) so we met them at a local brewery last night. Yum.
  10. The whole day for lab work! This may seem counter-intuitive that I am thankful for a whole day in lab, but I have had a class and seminars on Thursdays for the past 8 weeks. That makes it difficult to plan experiments.
  11. Leaving work at 4:15 on a Friday afternoon.
  12. Homemade chili, cornbread, pumpkin dip, beer, beer pong, friends, entertaining at my new place, and, I suppose, college football.
  13. A couple of hours at work that get me ahead for the week.
  14.
  15.
  16.  Yoga. I did a couple of podcasts from YogAmazing. I highly recommend subscribing if you want some short yoga routines for home.
  17.  A good message at a career development seminar: When you get a job offer, it is not because you are lucky, but because you deserve it.
  18. "Young-ish" adults pot-luck at the Associate Pastor's house.
  19. Using the free pizza coupon I got in the mail after moving after a short hike with CF.
  20. CF's soup.
  21. Finishing some imaging for a figure for my paper.
  22. My little brother's 31st birthday!
  23. A caramel macchiato and a nap during the 11 hour car ride.
  24. THANKSGIVING! Lots of delicious food, lots of family.
  25. Getting my parents' Christmas tree with all three of us kids and our extensions there.
  26. Decorating my parents' Christmas tree and my Dad's homemade lasagna with homemade bolognese and bechamel sauces.
Then I had to drive back to the Midwest and start working again...I will try to continue to add things for which I am thankful, but probably not everyday.

Fall 2012
It has been a year since I tried doing this, and I clearly did not keep it up. Here are some things for which I am thankful from this fall.
  • Lots of job postings in my field of interest and near family and friends.
  • A job interview!
  • Getting ahead on my financial life and starting to save money.
  • Seeing all my college roomies after 18 to 25 months of not seeing them.
  • That everyone I am close to made it out of Hurricane Sandy with their homes and families.
  • My parents' fall visit.
  • That I do not rack up the miles on my car as quickly as I used to so repairs are spread out.
  • A church that facilitates my doing things like volunteering, meeting new people, playing music, and eating delicious hand-made pretzels on a regular basis.
