We did spend some quality time playing with the new laser pen thing though. Well, I sat on the couch, and she played with it really.

Proof of Purchase
Per Spark's request.
So I had a 20% off any clearance item coupon that expired this week. The only pair of brown boots was too narrow in the toe and too loose in the ankle. Not a good combination for boots. Luckily, these shoes were there. I have worn them two days in a row in lab (and have been standing a lot), and they seem to be comfy! They are Born BOC and have a decent wedge on them. Lexi does not seem too thrilled about them in this picture. I think it is just because I had not paid much attention to her since I had gotten home.

Status update
I am not going to lie, I almost got jealous of alllll the people who are adding Facebook for their Blackberry or iPhone. They all update their status regularly while they are nowhere near their computers. As I was going about my day yesterday, instead of thinking about blog posts (which I do and then never write), I was thinking about what I would be changing my status to throughout the day. Here is my day in status changes.
Jenski made it back to yoga!
Jenski thinks you should never go to Costco hungry.
Jenski finally bought her cat a laser pen.
Jenski went for brown boots and came out with red shoes.
Jenski is enjoying her rotisserie chicken.
Jenski is off to MI in a few weeks!
Jenski thinks 8 hours at work on a Sunday is silly.
Jenski is enjoying her quinoa.
Jenski is sore already. This is not a good sign.
(Okay, so that one was real this morning because I went to an aerobics class called 'Boot Camp' and was sore before I left the class. Just though I would share.)
Jenski wishes everyone a Happy Australia Day.
(Also real from today)
Jenski wishes everyone a Happy New Year!
(Not real, but it would have been if I would not have felt like a shmuck for changing my status three times in a matter of hours.)

I wonder...
I do wonder what I was thinking having people over for dinner tonight. But right now I am wondering how this is, as everyone got caught up in random stuff and is late for dinner!
I have a presentation in the morning and a committee meeting on Friday. I was not really thinking about that when I was trying to schedule a night to have my lab mates over for dinner. Whoops. Now one was out today, one got stuck on the subway for an hour with our advisor (long story), one forgot she had a recitation, and the last (who actually has really poor time management) would have been on time, except she stayed back to walk with others. I did my baking for my presentation/meeting in the morning, and I suppose now will go see what else I can scrounge up to add to the presentation.
So much for a relaxing lab bonding night.

Inspiration
I need a little inspiration in, well, all aspects of my life I suppose. Today seems like a pretty good day for that to happen.

I'm such a dork
I just got really excited.
I am trying to polish up my talk for this conference I am attending. I have the new office 2007 and do not know all the ins and outs yet. So I grouped some stuff together in my powerpoint presentation, then added some animation, but then I want to add text to what was already there.
In the old version, you would add the text and it would go off the edge of the slide. You would have to ungroup the stuff, shift all the text back onto the slide, regroup, and usually reanimate.
In the new version, you can move stuff around within the group without ungrouping it?!?! Amazing.
K. Gotta go practice giving my talk...to my cat....

A reflection of sorts
While I should be putting the finishing touches on and practicing for a talk at a conference next week, I am visiting blogs. While I could be looking people up who will be at the conference (which starts tomorrow) and preparing for meeting someone who will likely be there with whom I would LOVE to get a job, I am going to do this meme that I found at Ern's. It is easy and requires no thinking, but a little leg-work. Go back through your archive and post the first sentence from the first post of every month. I did about 7 months of posting every day, so this could be interesting!
January: I am not sure why I signed myself up for this, but why not?
February: In addition to all the talk about how the two Superbowl teams match up, there's also some fun stuff out there.
March: I saw this over at Ern's.
[As an aside, apparently I get a lot of memes from Ern. I guess if she can post and get a PhD, I can too!]
April: Sadly, my internet at home is funky.
May: Apparently May really is the National Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month, so maybe I will post about that another time.
June: I love my peanut butter chunky.
July: I have been told that I come across as a confident person.
August: Well, I do not leave town until tomorrow, but was foiled in posting yesterday as our internet is out again.
September: And as unpacked as I can be without buying more furniture!
October: My heat came on for the first time this morning.
November: I should have posted earlier today so all you absentee voters had time to overnight post your votes, but alas.
December: I have many things to be thankful for, but I will start with a few reminders to be thankful from the past few days.

Yummy and Yummier
I spent New Year's Eve at a friend's party. She had mentioned me bringing a dessert, as she claimed I know how to bake. I took my job seriously and found two new recipes. Why I did not just make other desserts I know and like, I do not know. Here you have them though.
My friend loves pumpkin things, so I made this pumpkin gooey butter cake. There were two sticks of butter in it. It is the most cheese-cakey thing I have made, only the topping really is gooey. It was totally cooked, but REALLY soft when we cut into it later. Notice my thumb print in the top corner from when I was taking it out of the oven?
These hazelnut chocolate chip cookies were good too.
Time to finish taking down my tree and packing Christmas up.
Happy New Year!
