I was incredibly impressed with the green showing on campus today! I literally did some spot counts and at LEAST half the students were wearing green. It was one of the warmest days yet so they were also out playing beer pong, and some of the girls were wearing less green than they maybe should have been to stay adequately warm.
It did remind me that the large university where I work now is totally different from those where I have been before. First, sports. I guess it is cool to go to college games and see people play who will be famous someday, but I was raised mostly a pro-sports fan. I went to a handful of sporting events in college. A crew or cross-country race here or there is not the same a tailgating at a college football game though. Second, well, sports is the big one. I did laugh in the winter (to myself, of course) seeing the beer pong tables out covered in snow though. The college towns I have lived in did not have such blatant signs of college life.
Anyway - Happy St. Patrick's Day! Today, I feel more than the 1/16th Irish I am. (My grandmother is 1/4 Irish, so I think the math is correct.) I had a Guinness and a Smithwicks and now am ready for some sleep!
