While I let my brain reset and jump into the next section of my grant, I thought I would share these. I heard two tornado warning alarms last week, a first for me. The northeast seemed to have an increase in tornadoes over the past several years, but I am not entirely used to living where they have enough tornadoes to necessitate a siren. Hey, the back end of tornado-producing storm systems is pretty amazing though.

It must have been a very stormy weekend in America. The last post I read, on another blog, was also about storm sirens. So far the Toronto area sees very few tornados, and those that do touch down are very small and brief. For now. We'll see what global warming signs us up for.
Spark, it has certainly been stormy here in the northern Midwest! I have lucked out and only seen thunder storms so far.
I saw these the other day and just didn't know what to say.
Having grown up with tornado drills in school and being rather terrified of tornadoes, it sometimes strikes me rather speechless. A friend of mine in H.S. had her house flattened by a tornado in the middle of the night. Fortunately, this friend had always been weirded out by storms and she had moved to sleep in their downstairs, furnished basement. When her mom came to check on her, my friend insisted that her whole family come down. She said that she had a "bad feeling."
A bit later, the tornado hit. If they hadn't been down in that basement, they would have been injured (at the very least) if not killed.
It really changes how I view them.
Although, I will admit that these photos are lovely.
Danielle, that is amazing that your friend's family was safe after losing their house like that. I do take tornadoes seriously, but I have never seen one and really don't know what to expect when I do! Lightning always seemed so beautiful to me growing up, and I have never been nervous in storms. This will hopefully not come back to bite me in the butt.
BTW, I took these with my phone. :-) And they are the back of the storm system clouds, so there were not any more storms coming through that day.
