Reset

I use Mint-dot-com to put all my expenses in one place and track a budget. It has worked pretty well. My biggest realization is that I spend a significant portion of my income on the 'Gifts' category that includes charity, birthday, wedding, and baby gifts. I just changed my monthly limit and reset the overage that has grown to $400 over the past months.

When I went out yesterday for the sole purpose of cashing in on some free coupons at Bath & Body Works and L'Occitane and beefing up my professional wardrobe, I failed miserably at spending money on myself. It was the biggest shopping fail at Loft that I think I have ever had, no exaggeration. Last time I went in to get a pair of pants on sale, I walked out with a couple shirts, the pants, and a sweater. This time? Nada.

Professional wardrobe?? I thought all you needed were a bunch of those mad scientist lab coat thingies... and I guessing this post means I should lower my expectations on my gifts for Christmas and my birthday??? :-(

As we say in my family when we spend more money than we intend "But at least you kept the economy flowing!"

But I can understand why finding out you spend that much money on gifts might be a surprise.

Professional clothing shopping can be frustrating. I find that Dress Barn tends to have clothes that are more fitted (i.e. younger looking) yet professional. I've bought more clothes there than any other store over the past few years. I've stopped even going to places like Kohl's or Penny's, because I just never find anything at those places that I like. Good luck with finding some clothes!

I find clothes shopping to be an all-or-nothing kind of experience. If it's the wrong day for it, I can shop all day and not find a thing. If it's the right day, it's way too easy to walk home with full hands and an empty billfold.
