I joined a gym that just opened up near me - it had great charter membership deals, is close to home/work, and off-peak hours I can use the ginormous one that is an equal distance on the other side of me from work that has a pool and a lot more equipment. I have been taking advantage of the yoga and step classes about once a week and then doing my own thing any other day that I can. Essentially, I am adopting my friend KHC's attitude to just make the gym part of my routine.
The first (Hatha) yoga class I went to at the new gym was 90 minutes. I hurt for several days afterwards.
The second step class I went to was today and I had a meeting a work right afterwards, so I sat for an hour. Talk about a great way to make your muscles tighten up! Then I had to TA this afternoon and didn't drink water for 3 hours. My shoulders have gotten progressively tighter from all the punching and putting them over my head. I started getting a massive headache at my sister's Tupperware party tonight. The Aleve and latte didn't do squat.
I think I'll skip my morning gym visit and rest up.

All of my blogfriends are starting back with yoga. Isn't it the best?
OK, I have to go get ready for yoga now. (Seriously)
good for you for doing so much activity!
at least the pain means that you are working your muscles well. But not drinking enough water is a problem. I'll have to keep that in mind when I do lab.
seriously, yoga can be intense. last fall, i was all gung-ho about this one yoga studio, but then i went to one class, and i couldn't lift my arms for days! and i did a tape last night and i totally feel it today. if you're in serious pain, taking a day off is a good idea. and as long as you're sure that you didn't do any serious damage (e.g., straining a muscle), then the following might help: advil, a lot more water, an easy walk and a warm bath. feel better soon!
I felt like a new person "sleeping in" until 7:00 today!
Ern, Yoga's great! I'm totally getting my flexibility back.
Danielle, it's hard enough to drink enough when you're running experiments. TAing or teaching makes it that much harder to take a water break.
Molly, I feel fine today. I think it was just shoulder tension. Aleve did nothing for it yesterday though! Did you exercise today? ;)
you just have to do it consistently. I promise it will get better :-)
