I feel like a COMPLETELY new person. I even made it to the gym for an almost normal workout this morning. Very exciting! Tomorrow morning is yoga and that will finish healing me. :)
I still have two or three coughing fits a day though. Totally non-productive no matter what I do. Any great ideas about how to stop coughing? My guess is I just have to wait. I debated about going to the health center and demanding an inhaler today, but I didn't make the time. Dunkin' Donuts was having 99 cent lattes. That was way more important.
I have drank probably close to 4 liters of fluids today. Seriously. Do you know how much that makes you pee?

Hope you feel better soon. I don't know why coughs hang around like that. Try not to breathe too deeply.
If the coughing takes place when you go from a hot place to a cold place - like when you step outside - it's due to your lungs reacting to the colder air. Wrap a scarf over your mouth when you walk outside and your lungs will not be affected by the temperature change.
If it's just indoors drink hot beverages like tea, coffee, and plain hot water. These will keep you from getting dehydrated and the heat will ease your cough. Try not to talk too much and refrain from any kind of exercise.
You should only be using a steroid or rescue inhaler if your physician diagnoses you with asthma. For other lung infections antibiotics will work. If it is a virus there's nothing you can do but wait it out.
Thanks, Aurora! I think I'm almost better.
Unsigned, done all that. I'm a pro at bronchitis. I have also definitely needed an inhaler for bronchial illness before, bacterial, viral or mysterial. Coughing for 5 minutes without catching your breath isn't much better than an asthma attack.
ugh. 5 minutes?! That sounds very unhealthy. I can see why you would be looking for solutions.
I, unfortunately, don't have any. Cough drops and such are the only remedies that seem to work for people in my family. I really don't get coughs for some odd reason.
When I have a cough that seems stuck (and I'm lucky enough to be at my parents'), my sister the nurse will perform chest percussions on my back (from bottom to top), on the sides of rib cage and on the lower part of my chest in the front by clapping her cupped hands in an alternating fashion like she's beating a drum--I think it's a cystic fibrosis treatment. It will make me have a couple of productive coughs immediately and then my chest will stop hurting and be quiet for a while. For what it's worth. Maybe you can convince roomie to pound you on your back for a while tonight? Also, it's a good excuse for a steamy hot shower!
I don't have any razzle-dazzling advice, just more good wishes.
At least you're getting your exercise running to the bathroom every 20 minutes! ;-)
Hope you feel better! I love finally getting over a cold.
