The ups and downs

I am my mother's daughter. She repeats stories; I repeat post titles. Like tonight's title seemed familiar, so I searched it and found it here. I've also used "What to do with my life?" HERE and HERE. Apparently these would have been better questions to use as titles for my blog, except for the fact that I still don't know where to start.

ANYWAY. It's "late", as far as I'm concerned, so this won't be long and drawn out. I went to kindergarten; it was great (I'll post questions I was asked and stories tomorrow). I had an interesting journal club discussion about turtles and how they navigate. A group of grad students went to ice cream after seminar. All good fun. Then I get home to another rejection letter for one of the grants to which I applied. Way to put me in a bad mood?! Why do rejections always arrive on Fridays?

Then I had dinner and hung out with my roommate and her boyfriend for 3 hours at the table with some drinks. Now I don't feel so crappy about the grant rejection and can appreciate the good things that happened in my day.

Without rejections how could you really enjoy things when you get accepted??? I know it doesnt really help, but I'm sure good things are in store for you.

Waah... my sympathies.
Kindergarten sounds really fun; kids can be such a pick-me-up. They have so much energy and curiosity. Ah, youth!

Ice Cream is the cure for all that ails you. Sorry to hear about the grant... :-p
But you're already dusting yourself off for the next step, so good for you!

I'm proud of you for being able to see past the grant thing, too. Can't wait to hear about kindergarten! :o)

Ron, good point. :) I'd prefer fewer downs though.

Aurora, they were great!

Spark, I'm not sure I should be having ice cream for dinner all the time though.

Spark and Molly, I keep trying to remind myself of the better things. It helps a bit!

I too am sorry to hear about your grant.

I find that ice cream and coffee drinks are 2 excellent pick-me-ups. that and chocolate dessert....

;-)

Danielle, thanks. Logically I get the whole crappy funding environment. Still stinks! Today we had brownies and ice cream to celebrate an undergrad and my birthdays in lab. That made it a little better. :)
